Egypt’s Ministry of Endowment has banned the Salafist cleric Mohammed Saeed Raslan from delivering any religious sermons in mosques after he criticised the Egyptian authorities’ sanctions on opponents last Friday.

In an official statement released the ministry said that Raslan “had violated our [the ministry’s] instructions on Friday sermons”.

“No one is above the law. Everyone is accountable for his actions,” the ministry stressed.

Raslan is known for his support to the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. He calls him “The Conqueror” and always describes his opponents as “violators”.

The Egyptian cleric is also known for his hostility towards the Muslim Brotherhood group and the 2011 Arab Spring.
