UN report on Libya says hundreds died of torture

Libya ArmyA report on Libya published by the Office of the UN Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on Tuesday (10 April 2018) in Geneva said that the bodies of hundreds of people taken prisoner by armed groups have been found in streets, hospitals, and rubbish dumps, and that many of them had bound limbs, signs of torture, and gunshot wounds.

The report said thousands of people are being held in the country by armed groups, including those affiliated with the state, and the detainees are subject to torture and other serious violations and abuses.

“Men, women and children across Libya are arbitrarily detained or unlawfully deprived of their liberty based on their tribal or family links and perceived political affiliations,” the report said.
